Why this work?

Most people carry around more financial stress than they need to, and a lot of it comes from not being sure what they’re looking at. Getting to take that away, and then help somebody make a decision they feel good about, is about as satisfying as work gets.

What’s the first question you ask in a first meeting?

“What about your money doesn’t make sense to you?”

Almost everyone has something, and it’s rarely because they weren’t paying attention. Financial language is genuinely confusing. When someone tells me what’s been nagging at them, I know where to start, and it’s usually a better starting point than anything I would have picked on my own.

What do you wish more people understood about money?

Saving and spending are different skills. Most people spend a working lifetime getting good at saving, and then nobody tells them how to stop. Turning a balance into an income you actually trust is a different exercise, and in my experience it’s the part people wrestle with most. Giving yourself permission to spend what you worked for is harder than it sounds.

What kind of client do you do your best work with?

People who want to understand their own plan. I’m glad to do the heavy lifting, but the work goes better when someone asks questions, pushes back, and wants to know the why before they decide. I learn a lot in those conversations, too.

Where would I find you on a Saturday?

With my wife and daughter, probably outdoors. If I have the chance, I love to play golf. Cooking dinner at home is my therapy.
