Why this work?

My junior year of college, I picked up a book on personal finance and read it cover to cover in one sitting. I remember thinking, this is what I’m supposed to do with my life.

What fills my cup now is taking something that feels complicated and making it understandable. I love helping people make better decisions, avoid unnecessary mistakes, and use their money to build the life that matters to them. But my favorite part is the people. Sitting across the table from someone, hearing their story, and building a relationship that lasts for years.

What’s the first question you ask in a first meeting?

“Tell me more about yourself.”

Before we talk about money, I want to know the person across the table. What they do or did for a living, who the important people in their life are, what they enjoy, what they hope the next chapter looks like. Once I understand that, the financial conversation has a purpose.

What do you wish more people understood about money?

Like health or relationships or a career, financial success is usually the result of compounding good decisions over a long time. You don’t have to find the perfect investment or get every call right. Making good decisions consistently, avoiding big mistakes, and staying disciplined accomplishes an awful lot.

What kind of client do you do your best work with?

People who want a relationship with their advisor and value transparent advice. I don’t see my role as telling people what to do. I want to understand what they’re trying to accomplish, help them weigh their options, and make good decisions together. I especially enjoy working with people who think long-term. They’re not chasing the next hot investment or trying to time the market. They know lasting success comes from a good plan, consistent decisions, and adjusting as life changes.

Where would I find you on a Saturday?

Cheering on my daughters at a tennis court, at a concert or the gym, grilling something, outside with family, or on the road visiting people or seeing somewhere new.

In the fall, there’s a good chance I’m watching college football and pulling for my West Virginia Mountaineers, even if they’re not quite as competitive as they were when I was a younger man.
